FAQ

We acknowledge that there are often some questions that people have regarding their upcoming visit to a health care provider, so we have tried to anticipate some of the common things that people have asked us in the past.

Do I need to bring anything?

Make sure you bring any chest x-rays or CT scans you have had in the past to your appointment with the doctor.

If you use inhalers for your breathing, please bring them to your appointment.

Also, please remember to take your referral with you.

How long will the appointment take?

Your appointment time can vary and will depend on whether or not you have a lung function test prior to seeing the doctor.

A complex lung function test usually takes 30 min, whereas the more involved tests (such as Mannitol, MIPS and MEPs, and HAST) can take up to an hour.

Each doctor has different time allocations for patients, so appointment times will also vary by doctor.

If you are wondering whether our schedule is running to time, please give our rooms a call on the day of your appointment and we'll be happy to give you a rough estimate of the timeframe of your appointment.

I’m only breathless when I exercise. Will I have to exercise?

No. We do all the Lung Function Tests while you are sitting, but they still show exactly how your lungs are working. The results may give the doctor a good idea why you get breathless when exercising.

Could I feel unwell during the test?

You might feel a little more breathless than normal. The tests may also make you cough and feel a bit dizzy for a few seconds.

These symptoms are quite normal and should disappear soon after you finish each test.

You will be given time to rest as necessary.

What happens when the test is finished?

As long as you feel well, you can go home. There are no lasting side effects from the test.

You should be able to resume your normal routine immediately.

What are the costs?

Please phone our rooms and we will gladly give you a current estimate of our fees.

We have the ability to claim electronically from Medicare (your account details must be registered with Medicare).  If your bank account details are registered, please let us know before billing.
